Overall these pants are fantastic. I bought them on clearance and only had the black available. It can definitely get hot in the spring sun; I think these in a lighter color would be bomb. The leg vents dump heat on the ascent. They’re the perfect amount of wind and waterproof. The stretch is fantastic for what they’re designed to do. The leg cuffs are perfect for fitting over my ski boots. I ordered a size large with a 34 inch waist. I have big legs, so I was worried about the pants being too tight in the thighs. The Large is loose in the waist, but perfect through the legs. I might try ordering a medium next year to see that fit. I recommend these to everyone.
Thanks for the review and glad you like the pants! One option, instead of sizing down, we've had users shorten the waistbelt to provide a better waist fit.
Incredibly light weight and breathable. Sometimes I have to look down and make sure I’m actually wearing pants they are that light and comfy. I’m 5”10 160# and a skinny 31x31 in most pants. The small worked great for me. I could get the medium to work on the tightest belt setting but it was pretty billowy around the butt and upper quads. The cuff fits over ski boots no problem but the mid-thigh to mid-calf are on the skinny side so they have a bit of a bell bottom look on the ascent when your boots are unbuckled.
The Recon pant is the absolute best for fast and light touring. Whether I am training in the resort, skimo racing or linking big lines in the spring the Recon Pant is my go to. My favorite feature is the "media pocket" I either use it for my phone OR it fits a 750ml soft flask perfectly for days when I don't want to bring the backpack. I also love the weight of the pant, it's the only softshell that's actually light enough for when you are moving fast. The zipper at the hem for the pant allow for perfect adjustments between my F1 LT's and my Aliens. Keep it up Strafe! Love this one!
Light and breathable. These pants are perfect for going uphill.
I got these for ski touring and skimo training but they have quickly become my favorite pair of pants to wear all day. From a ski touring and skimo training perspective they allow for unencumbered motion, are very lightweight, and have well placed pockets. As a pant to wear the rest of the day they are extremely comfortable and look great.
